Back, And Better Than Before

I’m back on the PC. Living life on a PowerBook 12″ was fun, but for some things, nothing beats a PC.

Allow me to introduce…

First, the case which holds everything - Antec P180, affectionately known as the refrigerator.

And my rig:

  • AMD Athlon 64×2 3800+
  • ASUS M2N-SLI AM2 motherboard
  • Antec NeoHE 430W power supply
  • 2x Kingston 1GB RAM
  • ASUS GeForce 7600GS
  • 320GB Seagate 7200.10 hard disk
  • TDK AID+1616NA DVD writer
  • TDK CyClone 48/24/48B CD writer
  • Sapphire Theatrix 550Pro TV tuner

It took me two days to fix up the rig, and three weeks to install the software. Yes, three weeks. And it’s still not done, but I was getting impatient.

I wanted to run everything in dual-mode - dual-core, dual-channel, SLI, RAID… Alas, I would require some serious sponsorship to make that happen.

Still, dual core, baby.

Runner’s High

Two years thereabouts since I actually ran on my own accord.

They say the body produces endorphins to kill the pain. With these natural painkillers come the side effect of experiencing a high that leaves the mind giddy with euphoria for some time after.

I feel good.

So Long, Yet So Short

It seems like yesterday that I packed my bags, said my goodbyes and left for Perth. But it’s been a year. So much has happened since then, and yet it also seems like nothing has changed. So much I’ve learnt, and yet so little I remember.

I miss Perth.

And I still haven’t processed the photos from the trip, heh. Talk about major procrastination.

Emcee Fee

In a relatively short period of boredom today, we calculated the fee that a certain emcee charges for events.

It came up to… $187.50 per hour.

Talk about extremely good pay.

Working Late At Night

I reached home at 11.50pm!

… Of course, taking a taxi, on company expense. They have to reimburse me. It’s just Rightâ„¢ to do so.

Work rocks!

Ready, Steady… GO!

Here’s something I stumbled upon today, seeing how addictive it is to get card after card.

POSB GO!

And why would I want to get it? It just looks cool, that’s all. The design does look a lot better than the blue POSB ATM card, or even the orange POSB debit card.

Alas, no online transactions with this card, which makes it pretty useless for me.

My SIP Placement

Six months of sorting letters…

’nuff said.

Love In Lite

It’s great when you look at it through photos…

It’s sweet when you see it for real.

But it’s absolutely pure, unadulterated love when you get to touch one too.

The Nintendo DS Lite. Crystal White.

Alas, it only releases in Singapore in mid-April, at a price point of $400-odd. Would I pay $150 more for the look and the extra levels of brightness?

Yes, actually, I would.

But waiting till mid-April? Nah. Therefore, DS unLite here I come!

Surgical Spam Strike

Heheh, that’s a year and four months’ worth of spam on a fairly low traffic site for you. Took me just about two hours and a whole lot of pistachio nuts to surgically strike out all the dirt. The site was running on WordPress 1.0 I believe. First generation stuff!

And of course, the usual bout of WordPress plug-in plugging (pun intended, really). The combination of these two plug-ins have kept one of my sites surprisingly spam-free for a couple of months now.

The awards go to… Wordpress Hashcash and Bad Behavior.

This combination doesn’t guarantee freedom from trackback spam though, but I don’t believe in trackbacks anyway so they’re off everywhere I go.

Plug-ins - just one of the many reasons I use [and promote] WordPress.

Bayesian Telepathy

About time Mozilla Thunderbird started thinking the same way I did. The stuff it marks as junk mail automatically never ceases to amuse me.

Then again, I have to admit that I don’t train the Bayesian filter well though. So there.
